Car and City: BYD credited No.1 brand in Guangzhou by Jan. registrations of new energy PVs
For the month of January 2022, there were a total of 50,524 locally-made passenger vehicles PVs) registered in Guangzhou, the capital of southern China's province, representing a 3.2% decrease year-on-year and a 0.8% slight drop month-on-month, according to the registrations compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute GARI).

Among cities on Chinese mainland, Guangzhou ranked fourth by the registrations of homemade PVs in the first month of 2022, following Shanghai, Chengdu and Chongqing.
In terms of ownerships, 46,128 and 3,332 PVs were registered in the megacity by private and business users respectively. In the aspect of usage, 1,059 PVs were registered for car rental service.
By homebuilt PV registrations in Jan. 2022 in Guangzhou, two significant Japanese brands—Toyota and Honda—swept the champion and runner-up among all auto brands. Among the top 10 brands, 3 were Chinese indigenous ones, namely, Trumpchi 3rd BYD 6th and Changan Automobile 9th). Besides, two German luxury brands, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, occupied the 5th and 8th respectively.
On the list of top 10 PV models in Guangzhou by Jan. registrations, 7 spots were held by products under Toyota and Honda, of which the Sylphy ranked highest. Ranking fifth, the Model Y was the only pure electric one. Chinese local brands have no product cracking the top 10 rankings.
The monthly registrations of domestically built new energy passenger vehicles NEPVs) stood at 10,605 units in Guangzhou, leaping 79.9% from a year ago, while tumbling 44.4% from the previous month. The NEV registrations were composed of 7,449 BEVs and 3,156 PHEVs including 668 REEVs).
By Jan. China-made NEPV registrations, the most popular auto brand in Guangzhou was BYD. GAC Group's self-owned PV marque, Trumpchi, dropped two the 2nd with 1,605 vehicles registered. Three Chinese startups—XPeng, Li Auto, and NIO— ranked 4th to 6th. Notably, Chinese local brands grabbed up to 9 spots on the top 10 brands list.
Among the top 10 NEPV models by Jan. registrations in Guangzhou, the Model Y was the only one recording a registration volume of over 700 units, while the No.2 to No.10 places were all held by products under Chinese indigenous brands. Both AION and BYD seized three spots on the top 10 list.
