Nissan Motor May sales drop 38% YoY in China

Beijing (ZXZC)- In May, Nissan Motor saw its monthly sales continue to drop over the previous month and year in China. However, sales of the Venucia brand sustained its growing momentum in the month.

In the fifth month of 2022, Nissan Motor sold 68,844 vehicles in China, representing a 38% year-over-year decline. For the first five months of the year, Nissan Motor’s accumulative sales volume amounted to 436,969 vehicles in the country, indicating a 26.2% decrease from a year ago.

In May, Nissan Motor’s passenger vehicle joint venture, Dongfeng Motor Co. & Ltd. (DFL), sold 55,924 vehicles (including Nissan, Venucia, and Infiniti brands), slipping 37.4% compared to 2021. From January to May, the cumulative sales volume of DFL summed up to 356,939 vehicles, down 26.3% year on year. 

To be specific, Nissan sold 49,875 vehicles last month, with the SLYPHY making up more than half of its sales with 26,592 vehicles sold, edging up 1.8% from April. In the meantime, the Venucia brand sold 5,609 vehicles, adding up to a total of 34,639 vehicles sold in the first five months of this year, increasing 22.7% from the year-ago period. 

Additionally, Nissan Motor sold 12,920 commercial vehicles in May, 40.6% less than 2021. In the past five months of 2022, the accumulative sales volume of commercial vehicles amounted to 80,030 vehicles, down 25.5% year over year. Notably, the light truck sector, Dongfeng Automobile Company, has been transferred back to the hands of Dongfeng Motor Group directly on May 30th.
