Nio's fourth-generation battery swap station is equipped with 23 battery compartments, compatible with multi-size battery packs, and supports service for multiple brands.

Nio (NYSE: NIO) is showcasing its full lineup of models at the ongoing 2024 Shenzhen auto show, an annual event that is becoming one of the most important in the automotive industry after the biennial Shanghai and Beijing auto shows.

The 28th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, or Shenzhen auto show, began today at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in Guangdong province, and will run until June 9.

Nio's booth is located in Hall 5, where it has created the 1,400-square-meter Nio House, which includes a model and technology showcase area on the first floor, as well as a relaxation area on the second floor, according to an article the company posted on its mobile app today.

As it has done at previous major auto shows, Nio has created a battery swap station on the show floor, with a transparent area that allows visitors to see the process of changing a vehicle's battery.

Nio's first fourth-generation battery swap station and 640 kW ultra-fast charging station will go live in Guangzhou on June 13, said Ma Lin, the company's assistant vice president of branding and communications, at the event.

As of June 1, Nio had 2,428 battery swap stations in China, including 304 in the Greater Bay Area, Ma said.

The company had 22,601 charging piles in China, including 2,971 in the Greater Bay Area.

In Guangdong, Nio has 299 battery swap stations as well as 196 supercharging stations and 185 destination charging stations, according to Nio's charging map.

Nio unveiled the fourth-generation swap station, new 640-kW supercharger on December 23, 2023 at the last Nio Day event.

The upgraded battery swap station is equipped with 23 battery compartments and increases the capacity to 480 services in a single day, reducing the time per service by 22 percent, according to Nio.

The fourth-generation station has up to four Nvidia Orin X chips with six ultra-wide angle LiDARs and an overall computing power of 1016 Tops.

The next-generation site will be compatible with multi-size battery packs and support services to multi-brands, Nio said last year.

The company planned to start installing the fourth-generation battery swap stations and 640-kW superchargers in April 2024, it said at Nio Day 2023. Its latest announced date implies a slight delay.

Nio plans to continue adding 1,000 battery swap stations in China in 2024, bringing the total to more than 3,310, according to its plans announced at Nio Day 2023.

The company also aims to add 20,000 new charging piles in 2024, bringing the total to more than 41,000.

So far this year, Nio has added 112 battery swap stations in China, data compiled by CnEVPost show.
