China to build intelligent connected vehicle test and demonstration area in Yinchuan

Shanghai (ZXZC)- On February 6, the unveiling ceremony of Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) Test and Demonstration Area in Yinchuan of China was held in Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

The implementation of the project is led by Yinchuan Binhe New Area Management Committee. China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) is responsible for the planning and operation of the project.

CATARC vice president Gao Hesheng stated that the conventional auto testing methods and facilities can no longer meet the future testing requirements well. It is necessary to strengthen the R&D of ICV test and carry out a comprehensive testing evaluation with high precision and high reliability.

Besides, China highly values the construction of ICV test and demonstration area and provides the industry with strong supports and clear instructions in policy to accelerate the development of ICV test and evaluation. Yinchuan Municipality should expedite ICV test and demonstration area construction in China's northwest region.

Meanwhile, he highlighted that building the ICV base in Yinchuan can not only utilize the city's geographical merit as a bridgehead opened to west, but also will accelerate the implementation of autonomous vehicle test by taking advantage of the open policy environment in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

At a press conference of the project, Cai Xiangrong, deputy director of Yinchuan Municipal Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Substation, detailed the preparation process of the infrastructure and security about autonomous vehicle test in Yinchuan. In the meantime, he revealed that the government has finished formulating the relevant guidance and management documents about speeding up the autonomous vehicle test in the city.

According to CATARC's statement, the Yinchuan ICV base is designed to be constructed in three major phases, the first phase of the open testing area, the closed testing area and the lab for virtual scenario test, and the second phase of the open testing area.

As to operation of the base, CATARC stated that it will consider jointly operating with Yinchuan Municipal government and Binhe New Area Management Committee to take charge of major projects' decision-making and routine management works. In addition, some experts will be invited as consultants to give professional and authoritative instructions and proposals.
