In recent years, China’s NEV industry witnessed rapid growth. With the boost of national policies and market demand, the Chinese NEV market sustained a blooming record in the year 2023.

Specifically, there were 9.587 million and 9.495 million NEVs produced and sold by automakers in China during the past year, surging 35.8% and 37.9% year over year, respectively. NEVs accounted for 31.6% of the total auto sales of the country in 2023, up 5.9 percentage points compared to that of the previous year. Especially in the passenger car segment, NEVs made up 34.7% of the total annual passenger car sales.

In December 2023, automakers in China produced and sold 1.172 million and 1.191 million NEVs, which each shot up 47.5% and 46.4% from the previous year. NEVs nabbed a 37.7% share of the country's total auto sales last month.

Of the NEVs sold in the last month, about 1.08 million units were sold domestically in China, representing a 16.2% increase month-on-month and a 47.5% leap year-over-year. In 2023, approximately 8.292 million NEVs were consumed in China, marking a 33.5% growth from a year ago.
