CATL, Jiayuan Technology to build joint venture for copper foil production
CATL intends to build a joint venture with its copper foil supplier Jiayuan Technology for an electrolytic copper foil manufacturing project, according to an announcement Jiayuan Technology issued on Feb.9.
The joint venture, temporarily named Guangdong Jiayuan CATL New Energy Materials Co., Ltd. “Jiayuan-CATL will involve a registered capital of 500 million yuan $78.635 million 20% of which will be contributed by CATL. It will be incorporated in Meixian district, Meizhou city, Guangdong.
The business scope of Jiayuan CATL extends to cover the R&D, production and sale of high-performance copper foils, and the import, export, wholesale and retail of relevant raw materials, according to Jiayuan Technology’s announcement.

The joint venture is founded to construct high-performance electrolytic copper foil manufacturing facilities with a total capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year. The project is set to be built in two phases.
The announcement also notes the registered capital of the joint venture might be increased to 2 billion yuan $314.54 million) in the future based on the construction status of the first phase.
Jiayuan Technology primarily engages in researching, developing, producing and selling high-performance electrolytic copper foils. Its key products include ultra-thin lithium-ion battery copper foils and standard copper foils, which are mainly used as the current collector for the anode of lithium-ion batteries.
