Great Wall Motor achieves YoY growth in Aug. sales across five brands
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In a recent announcement on September 5, Great Wall Motor (“GWM”) released its production and sales figures for August 2023.
In August alone, GWM sold a total of 114,096 new vehicles, marking a remarkable 29.32% year-on-year growth. When considering the cumulative figures for the first eight months of 2023, the company has achieved sales of 742,413 vehicles, demonstrating a robust year-on-year growth rate of 4.76%.
One of the standout achievements in August was the sale of new energy vehicles (NEVs), with 26,301 units sold, reflecting an astounding 119.83% year-on-year surge. This performance contributed to a year-to-date total of 148,446 NEVs sold from January to August.
GWM's overseas sales division also delivered exceptional results in August, recording a staggering 99.95% year-on-year spike, with 30,741 new vehicles sold. This surge in overseas demand set a new historic high for monthly sales. In the January to August period, the company's overseas sales accumulated to 181,678 vehicles, marking an impressive 95.55% year-on-year hike.

The HAVAL brand saw its August sales reach 66,523 vehicles, reflecting a substantial year-on-year growth rate of 31.99%. The brand's first-ever electric off-road SUV, the HAVAL Menglóng, initiated pre-sales at the Chengdu Motor Show 2023 and garnered over 10,000 orders within ten days. Additionally, HAVAL expanded its product lineup with the new HAVAL H5 going on sale on August 21, offering four gasoline and two diesel variants at competitive prices ranging from 122,800 yuan to 157,800 yuan.

The WEY brand reported sales of 5,618 vehicles in August. The spacious six-seater SUV, the Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV, has now accumulated total sales of 22,281 units.
At the Chengdu Motor Show 2023, WEY introduced its first high-end electric MPV, the Gāoshān DHT-PHEV, officially opening pre-orders.
The ORA brand achieved sales of 10,206 vehicles in August, marking the fourth consecutive month with sales exceeding ten thousand units and a year-on-year growth of 11.4%. However, the brand's year-to-date sales fell 12.31% over a year ago to 67,620 units.

The TANK brand, specializing in off-road vehicles, reported robust sales in August, totaling 14,674 new vehicles, signifying a remarkable year-on-year leap of 46.62%. The TANK 500 family saw recorded sales of 5,500 vehicles last month, reflecting an impressive year-on-year soar of 96.43%. Among these, the TANK 500 Hi4-T accounted for 3,036 units, and its cumulative order volume has already exceeded 10,000 units.
At the Chengdu Motor Show 2023, the brand unveiled its second model built on the Hi4-T platform, the mid-sized urban utility off-road SUV, the TANK 400 Hi4-T, which has commenced pre-sales.
Great Wall Pick-up logged a sales volume of 17,040 vehicles in August, representing a year-on-year growth of 9.47%. Within this segment, the GWM POER series achieved sales of 12,011 vehicles in August, demonstrating a year-on-year growth rate of 12.5%.
Over the first eight months of 2023, Great Wall Pick-up achieved a domestic market share of nearly 50%.
