Honda Motor posts 22% YoY drop in China sales in H1 2023

Shanghai (ZXZC)- In June 2023, Honda Motor sold 113,133 vehicles to consumers in China, representing a 19.8% year-on-year decrease, according to the Japanese automaker's press release.

For the first half of 2023, Honda Motor’s cumulative sales in China amounted to 529,691 units, shrinking 22% compared to the same span of last year.

Looking back to the past six months of this year, the automaker only scored a year-on-year growth in its China monthly sales in May, but posted a downward movement in the other five months.

As for the performance of hotter-selling models, there were a total of four models whose June sales in China all exceeded 10,000 units, namely, the INTEGRA, the CR-V, the BREEZE, and the CIVIC. Notably, the sales of the INTEGRA and the CR-V both exceeded 15,000 units.

The Japanese automaker didn’t reveal the sales breakdown of each joint venture this time.

On July 3rd, the all-new INSPIRE, the flagship sedan from Dongfeng Honda, officially hit the market, priced between 182,800 and 258,800 yuan.

This all-new INSPIRE offers both oil-fueled and plug-in hybrid power options, showing a clear commitment to versatile powertrain strategies. The fuel-burning version is equipped with a 260 TURBO turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum power of 141kW and a peak torque of 260N·m, combined with a CVT transmission.

Its plug-in hybrid version boasts the e:PHEV hybrid technology. It employs a 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine with direct injection, offering high thermal efficiency of up to 41% and a peak  torque of 182 N·m. This is paired with a new E-CVT high-power motor that provides a maximum power of 135kW and a peak torque of 335 N·m.
