Great Wall Motor’s monthly NEV, overseas market sales hit all-time highs in May 2023
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In May this year, Great Wall Motor (“GWM”) sold 101,020 new vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 26.18%, according to the automaker’s press release. Its monthly sales volume has been climbing steadily since the beginning of 2023.
GWM said its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales reached 23,755 units in May, accounting for a record-high share of 23.52% in the company’s overall sales. In the same month, overseas market sales also reached a historic high of 25,131 units, showing a remarkable year-on-year growth of 104.04% and accounting for 24.88% of GWM’s total sales.

The HAVAL brand achieved a remarkable performance in May with 55,600 vehicles sold, reflecting a growth of 33.18% from a year ago. Hitting the market last month, the HAVAL Xiaolong MAX and the HAVAL Xiaolong recorded a combined sales volume of 3,088 in May. Additionally, the second-generation HAVAL Dagou (“Big Dog”) PHEV achieved a monthly sales volume of 3,325 units.
The WEY brand recorded sales of 5,770 units in May, representing a year-on-year spike of 128.97%. The WEY Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV, a flagship 6-seater SUV in the 300,000 yuan price range, saw its first full-month sales reach 5,136 units.
Besides, the ORA brand also experienced positive growth in May with sales reaching 10,616 units, reflecting a month-on-month increase of 19.27%. Meanwhile, Tank brand’s sales in May leapt 30.07% from a year earlier to 10,429 units.
Great Wall Pick-up sold 18,605 units in May, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 9.39%. The hotter-selling Great Wall Poer pickup model had a sales volume of 14,006 units last month, which were 6.19% more than that of the year-ago period.
