SAIC Motor boasts 124.52% YoY surge in Apr. auto sales
Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC Motor scored a robust year-on-year growth of 124.52% in its Apr. 2023 automobile sales, which came in at 373,949 units, the Shanghai-based auto giant announced on May 5.
As for the sales performance of subsidiaries, main joint ventures under SAIC Motor all presented a blooming upward movement. To be specific, SAIC-GM-Wuling saw its Apr. sales jump 38.52% over the previous year to 105,300 units, while both SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM gained a three-digit year-on-year surge in their Apr. sales.
SAIC Motor said 54.2% of its overall sales in Apr. were contributed by its wholly-owned brands, which sold roughly 203,000 vehicles in total to reflect an 81.9% year-over-year leap.

In Apr., SAIC Motor recorded a new energy vehicle (NEV) sales volume of 68,227 units, which shot up 80.59% from a year earlier. Of the NEVs sold last month, over 26,000 units were under Roewe and MG brands, indicating a precipitous growth of 606.6% year-over-year.
Notably, IM Motors, the premium electric vehicle brand backed by SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang High-Tech, delivered 2,009 vehicles last month, 1,930 units of which were the LS7 SUVs.
The auto group also added its export volume and sales of overseas markets totaled 89,643 units in Apr., soaring 130.45% over the year-ago period.
Despite the positive growth in Apr. sales, SAIC Motor still faced an 8.8% year-on-year drop in its year-to-date sales, which reached 1,265,117 units.
