Great Wall Motor sees Mar. 2023 auto sales jump MoM, but fall YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Great Wall Motor (“GWM”) sold 90,240 vehicles in Mar. 2023, reflecting a month-on-month jump of 32.3%, the Chinese automaker announced on Friday.

However, compared with the year-ago period, GWM’s Mar. auto sales still dropped 10.59%.

Among brands, the SUV-dedicated HAVAL still sold the most vehicles last month, but faced a 13.05% year-on-year decline. The WEY brand was confronted with a 73.19% plunge over a year earlier with only 1,275 vehicles sold. In addition, the new energy vehicle (NEV)-focused ORA saw its Mar. sales decline 32.59% to 9,615 units.

Notably, both Great Wall Pick-up and TANK gained an upward year-over-year movement by selling 19,981 and 11,950 vehicles, respectively.

For the first quarter of this year, GWM’s cumulative sales fell 22.41% from the previous year to 219,968 units. Aside from Great Wall Pick-up, the other brands all posted a year-on-year decrease in their year-to-date sales.

Of the vehicles the company sold last month, 13,155 units were NEVs, resulting in a Jan.-Mar. NEV sales volume of 27,808 units.

GWM also said its export volume and the sales of automobiles sold in overseas markets totaled 51,975 units for the first three months, 22,293 units (+111.61% YoY) of which were made in Mar.
