The 5G connected test field can run various simulation scenarios, including highway, rural roads, and city traffic. The field can also be used to test out ADAS and V2X solutions. According to Volkswagen Anhui the test field will see its first vehicle model test and validation in the third quarter of 2022, with the construction of entire field completed in 2023.
The experiment test field is located in Volkswagen Anhui)’s R&D center, consisting of a total of 10 kilometers of internal road and external highway testing roads, allowing over 28 new energy vehicle and relative system road tests. The test field will significantly elevate the automaker’s R&D capability while shortening vehicle R&D time.
The external highway loop roads are roughly 1.6 km long, with a cutting-edge 40° arc, allowing a maximum 120km/h ACC speed and 180km/h driving speed under tests. The roads will be used to test out new energy models under highspeed and high wind noise scenarios.
On the other hand, the internal test roads will be ready to use in September 2022. The roads are inclusive to an ADAS-dedicated dynamic square and multiple infrastructures for noise, vibration, and acoustic tests. Additionally, there will be a 120 meters long passage for the R&D of intelligent running light technology.
Notably, the construction of Volkswagen Anhui)’s battery and auto parts shop and mule car center will be done in the last quarter of 2022.
