Shanghai (ZXZC)- Volvo Cars recently put its Asia Pacific Software Integration Center in Jiading district, Shanghai city into use, according to a press release.

The said facility is the first centralized software integration laboratory outside of Volvo Cars' headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, and also one of the automaker’s most important R&D investment projects in the Asia Pacific region over the past several years.

Volvo Cars said through this new laboratory, its Asia Pacific R&D center can achieve round-the-clock seamless communication with the R&D team at the Swedish headquarters in Gothenburg, serving as a global unified software development team to jointly promote the software development and upgrade of Volvo Cars’ next-generation BEV (battery electric vehicle)-dedicated platform.

Volvo Cars added it is steadily advancing its transformation into a software-driven company. Since 2022, the OTA (over-the-air) upgrade function has become applicable across the entire new vehicle model lineup of Volvo Cars. For instance, its all-new full-electric flagship SUV—the Volvo EX90—enables the full integration and rapid iteration of software functions by virtue of its new central computing platform and vehicle-level SOA software architecture, and can continuously provide users with a more personalized and intelligent travel experience through self-learning and OTA upgrades.

The inauguration of the Asia Pacific Software Integration Center will further enhance Volvo Cars’ global strength in the in-house software R&D. The new laboratory contains various high-performance tools and test racks, and boasts a digital resource management system and professional R&D team. It will carry out complete testing, integration, and verification of code from the unit, component, and domain levels to the vehicle's electronic electrical system.
