Volkswagen ID. family sees 2022 annual China sales more than double YoY

Beijing (ZXZC)- Volkswagen brand sold over 2.3971 million vehicles in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong in the year 2022, representing a 1.3% drop over a year ago, according to Volkswagen’s announcement on January 13.

The automaker sustained its strong momentum in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, with a total delivery volume exceeding 180,600 units in the past year, indicating a year-on-year surge of 51.6%. Notably, 79.2% of the NEVs delivered in China were pure-electric models from the ID. family. Volkswagen’s overall market share in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong reached 11.4% through 2022. 

Through 2022, Volkswagen sold 143,100 vehicles from its ID. electric-vehicle lineup in China, representing a 102.9% hike year-over-year. The ID.4 and ID.6 models ranked third in the compact and full-sized pure electric SUV segments in China, respectively. In order to give consumers a better reach of its products and services, Volkswagen expanded its ID. showroom network from 115 stores in 2021 to 401 stores in 2022. 

With the ID. family accomplishing its 2022 annual sales target and see its yearly sales doubling from the same period last year, Volkswagen brand's share of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong electric vehicle market was also strengthened. Besides, the German auto brand has already seen its cumulative sales in China hit the significant 40 million-unit milestone.
