China’s Jan.-Aug. deliveries of imported passenger vehicles dip 21.8% YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- For the first eight months of 2022, there were 516,807 imported passenger vehicles (PVs) delivered across China, representing a 21.8% decrease year-over-year, according to Sinomach Automobile Co., Ltd., China's largest dealer of imported vehicles.

To be specific, the Jan.-Aug. deliveries of imported cars, SUVs, and MPVs dipped 23.5%, 21.3%, and 4.9% respectively from the previous year to 230,899 units, 265,551 units, and 20,357 units.

Of the imported PVs delivered in the first eight months of the year, 465,710 units were under luxury car brands, reflecting a 21.8% year-on-year downward movement. Luxury brands hereby consist of Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lexus, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Acura, smart, Tesla, Volvo, Infiniti, etc.

Ultra-luxury brands, including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, etc., saw their combined imported PV deliveries jump 11% over a year earlier to 908 units in August mainly thanks to the growth in the Ferrari F8’s sales, resulting in a Jan.-Aug. volume of 5,939 units (+6.8% YoY).

Among the top 10 brands by Aug. sales of imported PVs in China, there were four brands achieving a year-on-year growth, namely, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, and Jeep. Of them, Jeep was the fastest-growing one. Audi ranked 5th, but it was confronted with the biggest year-over-year decrease.

In terms of the Jan.-Aug. imported PV deliveries in China, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW were the top 3 brands. Despite the overall downturn, Porsche and Toyota's China units still saw their year-to-date imported PV deliveries rise from a year earlier.
