China’s car parc amounts to 315 million units by end of Sept. 2022

Shanghai (ZXZC)- China's motor vehicle parc amounted to roughly 412 million units by the end of Sept. 2022, 315 million of which were automobiles, according to China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

There were 26.21 million motor vehicles newly registered in the first three quarters of this year, 17.4 million of which were automobiles.

According to the data by the MPS, the monthly automobile registrations have surpassed 2 million units for three straight months since July, resulting in a cumulative registration volume of 6.295 million units for the third quarter of this year, which were 254,000 units more than that of the year-ago period.

In the Jan.-Sept. period of 2022, China's registrations of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 3.713 million units, surging 98.48% from a year earlier. Notably, the monthly NEV registrations for the third quarter reached around 498,000 units on average, which were higher than the monthly average volume of 370,000 units for the first half of this year.

As of Sept. 2022, there have been 11.49 million NEVs running on roads in China, including 9.26 million all-electric vehicles.

By the end of Sept. 2022, there were 82 cities in China whose auto parc all surpassed 1 million units, 6 more than that of the year-ago period. A total of 21 cities had over 3 million automobiles running on roads. Notably, Beijing topped other cities with a car parc exceeding 6 million units, while both Chengdu and Chongqing recorded a car parc of over 5 million units. The respective car population of Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, and Wuhan all exceeded 4 million units.

The total number of registered motor vehicle drivers in China grew to 499 million people as of Sept. 2022, 92.46% of which were automobile drivers. In the first three quarters of 2022, a total of 23.92 million persons received motor vehicle driving licenses, sliding 10.48% year over year.
