GAC Group’s Jan.-Jul. 2022 vehicle sales reach nearly 1.4 million units

Shanghai (ZXZC)- GAC Group, one of the major Chinese automobile groups, announced it sold 220,104 vehicles last month, representing a year-on-year jump of 21.93%, while reflecting a month-on-month drop of 6.1%.

In terms of July sales, GAC Toyota still outsold other subsidiaries and obtained a two-digit year-over-year growth. GAC Honda was the runner-up with its sales coming in at 75,436 units. The other Sino-Japanese joint venture, GAC Mitsubishi, posted a 17.89% decline from the previous year.

Notably, GAC FCA was removed from the group's July sales results. On July 18, Stellantis, the foreign parent of GAC FCA, announced its intention to team up with GAC Group in an orderly termination of the joint venture, which has been loss-making for recent years and recorded a confirmed non-cash impairment charge of roughly €297 million in the first half of 2022.

In July, the group had seven models whose respective sales all exceeded 10,000 units, namely, the Accord series (24,097 units), the Camry series (20,598 units), the Levin series (16,881 units), the Wildlander series (12,652 units), the AION Y (12,530 units), the Breeze series (12,202 units), as well as the Vezel (10,550 units).

For the first seven months of this year, GAC Group saw its cumulative sales rise 13.5% year on year to 1,370,030 units. Except for GAC Mitsubishi, the group's other subsidiaries all gained a year-on-year increase in their year-to-date sales.

GAC AION was still the fastest-growing one regarding both July sales and Jan.-Jul. sales.The Guangzhou-based automobile group said its year-to-date new energy vehicle ("NEV") sales reached 140,399 units (+121.25% YoY), 27,064 units of which were sold last month to reflect a 127.26% year-on-year hike.
