Audi breaks ground on first NEV manufacturing base in China
On June 28th, Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd. broke ground on its first battery-electric vehicle-dedicated factory in Changchun, Jilin Province. The company will pour €2.6 billion into the project. The factory can be expected to start operation in the end of 2024, with a designed production capacity of over 150,000 vehicles per year.

CPCA predicts June NEV retails to reach new high in China
According to the China Passenger Car Association, in the first 26 days of June, China’s passenger vehicle retail volume amounted to 1.422 million vehicles, jumping 27% year over year and 37% month over month. The strong growing momentum aligns with China’s national promotion of vehicle sales. The CPCA predicts that the retail volume of new energy vehicles may reach roughly 500,000 vehicles in June at record high.
Xiaomi invests in semiconductor supplier Xiner
Shenzhen Xiner Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. has recently added Xiaomi-backed venture capital firm as one of its shareholders on June 28th, according to China’s corporate information platform Qichacha. Xiner is known as a semiconductor provider for home appliances as well as new energy vehicles.
Tencent emphasizes decision not to make cars
On June 28th, the vice president of Tencent smart transportation division, Zhong Xuedan, said in an interview that Tencent would not be producing vehicles. The company has its focus on automotive cloud. Tencent has reached cooperation with over a hundred automakers and mobility service providers, including BMW, Audi, NIO, Li Auto, and Ford.
HUAWEI-backed AITO to launch second model on July 4th
HUAWEI disclosed that AITO’s second production model, the M7 SUV, will make its official debut at HUAWEI’s summer product launch on July 4th. The new model is installed with a 1.5T range extension system with a battery-electric range of 150km.
