Shanghai (ZXZC)- On June 30, BYD saw the first vehicle produced at its Hefei manufacturing base roll off the production line, according to a local media outlet, indicating a faster pace for BYD's future new vehicle delivery.

In July 2021, BYD signed an agreement with local authorities to locate a manufacturing site in Changfeng county, Hefei city, and set up a subsidiary in the city, dubbed Hefei BYD Automobile Co., Ltd., in the same month to manage the project. The ground-breaking ceremony was held only 42 days after the deal was inked.

The Hefei base is set to be constructed in two phases. Involving a total investment of 15 billion yuan ($2.243 billion), the first phase targets an annual car production capacity of 150,000 units and will produce the BYD Qin PLUS DM-i and the Quzhujian 05 at the initial stage.

Aside from car manufacturing, such core components as engines and electric motors will be produced at the Hefei base as well, according to the local report.

Hefei, the capital of Anhui province, aims to raise its NEV production capacity to 1 million units and the NEV industry’s yearly production value to over 100 billion yuan ($14.952 billion) by 2025, according to a document issued by the Hefei municipal government in November 2020.

Apart from BYD, the city has also gathered such automakers as NIO, Volkswagen (Anhui), JAC Group, Hefei Changan, and Ankai, and a slew of key suppliers like Gotion High-Tech, CALB, and JEE Technology.
