New energy passenger vehicles help carbon emission cut by 15 mln tonnes per year in China
Shanghai (ZXZC)- The use of the new energy passenger vehicles currently running on roads in China can result in around 15 million tonnes of carbon emissions cut annually compared to that of traditional oil-fueled passenger vehicles, China's governmental agencies including National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Commerce said on Jan. 21 at a press conference.

As publicly disclosed, China's NEV sales reached 3.521 million units in 2021, surging about 160% over the previous year. With 7.84 million vehicles running on roads, NEVs accounted for 2.6% of the country's total auto parc by the end of Dec. 2021. Among the global NEV population, around half were contributed by China.
Besides, Wang Bin, an official with the Ministry of Commerce, said revitalizing the transaction of used cars will not only drive new car consumption, but also promote the cascade utilization of automobiles, so as to enhance utilization efficiency of resources.
The trading volume of used cars amounted to 17.585 million units in China last year, jumping 22.6% year on year. The ratio of annual pre-owned car trading volume to new vehicle sales reached a record high of 0.67.
As part of efforts to boost green consumption, China is moving faster on recycling end-of-life vehicles. In 2021, there were 2.975 million scrapped motor vehicles recycled, 2.493 million of which were automobiles, representing a year-on-year growth of 20.7%.
