CATL, BYD make up 68.3% of China’s 2021 installed power battery capacity
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In December 2021, China's power battery outputs reached 31.6GWh, soaring 109% year on year, while also growing 12% month on month, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).

For the year of 2021, there were 219.7GWh of power batteries produced in this country, representing a 163.4% year-on-year hike. Of those, 93.9GWh and 125.4GWh were ternary-lithium batteries and lithium phosphate batteries, up 93.6% and 262.9% from the year-ago period.
The CAPBIIA's data showed that China's installed battery capacity reached 26.2GWh last month, leaping 102.4% from a year ago, while also jumping 25.9% over the previous month.
Regarding Dec. installed capacity, the No.1 power battery manufacturer in China was still CATL, who accounted for 55.6% of the country's total capacity, up by 0.6 percentage points from the previous month. The runner-up BYD recorded 3.73GWh of installed capacity last month. Compared to November, LG Energy Solution moved up 5 spots to the fifth place, while SVOLT dropped to the sixth.
The country's full-year installed battery capacity zoomed up 142.8% from the year earlier to 154.5GWh, 48.1% and 51.7% of which were from ternary-lithium batteries and lithium phosphate batteries respectively.
Regarding the annual installed capacity, CATL and BYD together accounted for 68.3% of the country's total volume. Compared to the rankings based on Jan.-Nov. performance, TAFEL surpassed EVE Energy to the sixth place.
