Shanghai (ZXZC)- For the year of 2021, the retail sales of locally-produced PVs (referring to cars, MPVs, SUV, and minibuses) in China amounted to 20.486 million units, growing 4.5% from the previous year, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The increase in annual PV retail sales was 1.6 percentage points lower than the growth in the Jan.-Nov. volume. The shrinkage was mainly due to the high base for the second half of 2020, said the CPCA.

In Dec. 2021, about 2.141 million locally-built PVs were retailed in the world's largest auto market, representing a 7.7% rise year-on-year, while showing a 16.1% jump month-over-month.

The supply of chips was further improved last month, contributing to the rise in both PV production and sales volumes. Nevertheless, the coronavirus pandemic still told against the growth of PV market last month. On the one hand, the resurgence of the virus whittled down the footfall at car showrooms, so that the recovery of the service industry was disrupted. On the other hand, the public finance faced increase in the expenditure for the coronavirus prevention and control, resulting in weaker consumption for improving people's livelihoods, said the association.

Besides, the decrease in Dec. PV retail sales was also attributed to the high base for the year-ago period, when incentives for spurring car sales would soon be ended.

The retail sales of locally-made luxury PVs reached roughly 250,000 units in December, sliding 3% year on year, but growing 18% from a month earlier and jumping 22% compared to Dec. in 2019.

The retail sales of PVs under Chinese indigenous brands reached about 930,000 units last month,

growing 4%, 12%, and 25% compared to the previous year, the previous month, and Dec. 2019 respectively. The market share of China's self-owned brands reached 46.3% in Dec. by retail sales, 6.9 percentage points higher than that of the year-ago period.

Mainstream joint-venture brands logged a PV retail volume of 930,000 units in total last month, down 19% year on year, while up by 19% month on month.
