Tesla China to recall 21,599 China-made Model Ys for suspension knuckle issue
Shanghai (ZXZC)- From now on, Tesla (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. will recall a total of 21,599 made-in-China Model Ys that were manufactured between Feb. 4, 2021 and Oct. 30, 2021, in order to fix a potentially dangerous suspension defect, according to a recall plan Tesla filed to China State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
China-made Model Y
According to the document, the front and rear suspension links on Model Y vehicles are attached to the knuckles. Due to the factor on the side of the supplier, the knuckles may not have been manufactured to the correct strength requirement. This condition may cause the knuckles to deform and fracture when a car is running, and even may lead the suspension links to separate from the knuckles.
Tesla warned in this document that the abovementioned potential defect may adversely affect the vehicle controllability and thus increase the risk of collision.
Notably, the possible deformation and fracture of knuckles was also the cause for Tesla's another recall of the Model Ys occurring a few days ago in the U.S. In this case, 826 U.S.-made Model Ys were involved.
Prior to the latest case, Tesla China launched a plan in late June to recall 285,520 imported and China-made Model 3s and Model Ys due to the issue of active cruise control system.
Besides, the U.S. automaker also released two recall moves in February and June this year, while the vehicles affected were all imported ones.
