Shanghai (ZXZC)- For the month of September 2021, the insurance registrations of NIO's three mass-produced models aggregated 10,423 units, surging 118.1% year on year, while also leaping 60.9% month on month, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC).

In terms of Sept. registrations of locally-built new energy vehicles (NEVs), NIO once again regained the championship among Chinese NEV startups and ranked 8th among auto brands in China, climbing three spots compared to August.

For the first three quarters of 2021, NIO's car insurance volume amounted to 66,054 units, soaring 150.8% from the prior-year period.

Among NIO's three models, the EC6 boasted the biggest year-on-year growth thanks to the low base for the year-ago period. As of Sept. 2021, the model's cumulative registrations had reached 27,503 units within 13 months.

Shanghai topped the other cities in China with 567 EC6s registered there last month. It was immediately followed by Hangzhou, which was the only one recording EC6 registrations between 200 and 300 units.

The monthly insurance volume of the ES6 hit a new high of 5,102 units in September. Among China-made NEV models, it ranked 17th by Sept. registrations.

Shanghai, where the startup's global headquarters is located, still outperformed other cities by the ES6’s Sept. registrations, outselling the runner-up Beijing by 504 units. Both Shenzhen and Guangzhou entered the top 10 list, while failed to reach a volume exceeding 200 units.

The Sept. ES8 registrations showed upward movement compared to both Aug. and the year-ago period, and represented the highest monthly level so far this year.

Shanghai contributed to 16% of the country's overall ES8 registrations last month. Meanwhile, three cities—Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Beijing—all logged the ES8 insurance volume between 100 and 200 units. Notably, Hefei, where NIO China is headquartered, cracked the top 10 with 71 ES8s registered.
