Shanghai (ZXZC)- Tesla's first made-in-China V3 Superchargers were launched in Shenzhen on May 20, according to a local media outlet.

The newly-launched charging piles are all from Tesla's supercharger manufacturing factory in Shanghai, which just started production on Feb. 3 this year.

With an investment of 420 million yuan ($65.234 million), the 5,000-square-meter plant has an annual capacity of 10,000 superchargers at the initial stage, mainly the V3 model.

Before the Shanghai factory was built, Tesla's superchargers deployed in China were all imported from the U.S.

Tesla said its V3 Superchargers support a peak charge rate of up to 250kW. At this rate, a Model 3 Long Range operating at peak efficiency can recover up to 75 miles (around 120km) of range in 5 minutes and be charged at a rate of up to 1,000 miles (around 1,610km) per hour. Besides, the V3 Supercharging can ultimately cut the amount of time customers spend charging by an average of 50%.

When the Shanghai supercharger factory went into operation, Tesla had already opened more than 730 supercharging stations in over 300 cities across China. Last year, the EV manufacturer built 410 supercharging stations in the country, of which 180 are for V3 Superchargers.

According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the wholesale volume of Tesla's Chin-made vehicles amounted to 25,845 units last month, dropping 27.15% from the previous month. Of those, 11,671 units were sold in domestic market, while 14,174 units were exported outside China.
