GWM Feb. sales up 788% year on year

Beijing (ZXZC)- Great Wall Motor (GWM) sold 89,050 vehicles in February, jumping nearly eightfold compared with the same period of last year. Its domestic and overseas sales surged 1029% and 226% respectively. However, the automaker saw a decrease of 40.68% month on month due to the Chinese New Year holiday.

The automaker’s cumulative sales in the first two months surged 153% to 228,062 units from a low base of last year, accounting for 19% of its annual target.

The four brands from the company saw monthly sales with both year-on-year growth and month-on-month decline. Haval sold 155,541 vehicles in the past two months, a year-on-year increase of 136%. The Haval H6 has been the most popular SUV model in China for 93 consecutive months with 31,710 sold in February. The monthly sales of the Haval M6 were 8,535. Less than two months on the market, the Haval F&L has attracted nearly 10,000 customers with 4,002 sold in February.

Thanks to the popularity of the Tank 300, WEY’s total sales in the first two months were up to 17,500 units. The Tank 300 had a total sales volume of 9,318 units since its sales started in December, 2020. The Moca, its first mass-produced flagship SUV model, is claimed to bring new user experience to the market.

Last month, GWM sold 15,127 pickups, gaining 52% market share in the world’s largest auto market. The GWM POER remained the most popular pickup in China with 20,170 sold in the first two months of this year. The top three pickup models by sales were all from GWM, namely the GWM POER, the Wingle 7 and the Wingle 5.

ORA saw its monthly sales skyrocket 2780.47% from a year ago while its cumulative sales of the first two months jumped 1033.29%. The ORA Heimao’s monthly sales reached 4,561 units and cumulative sales increased by 588% to 10,651 units. Recently, the brand started to offer much more color options, including the Morandi version, to meet diversified demands from the market.

The automaker’s monthly in overseas market jumped 226% year on year to 9,786 units while the cumulative sales of the first two months were 20,758 units, up 179% from a year ago. In 2021, GWM will continue to deepen its globalization strategy and venture into the world. Last month, the automaker officially launched GWM brand to the Thai market and also two models, namely All New HAVAL H6 and ORA Good Cat. On February 14, GWM POER Pickups were launched in Bahrain. Currently, the GWM POER are on sale in eight countries.
