Since entering the Chinese market in 2002, Hyundai Motor has steadily ramped up its local R&D efforts. With the creation of R&D centers in Shanghai, Yantai, and Chengdu cities, the automaker now boasts a comprehensive setup, covering advanced technology, passenger vehicle, and commercial vehicle development. This localized R&D expansion underscores Hyundai's commitment to both China and the global push for cutting-edge automotive innovations.
As to Hyundai’s future plans in China, the Hyundai Motor Advanced Technology R&D Center in China also plans to launch a UX Studio in Shanghai's Jing'an District next year, serving as a key touchpoint between the brand and Chinese consumers. The automaker will focus on forward-looking research and mass production development of autonomous driving technologies, particularly L2-L4 stages. The company’s RoboTaxi has already secured a demonstration operation license in Shanghai, setting the stage for trial operations. Additionally, Hyundai’s new vehicle platform will cater to Chinese preferences in cockpit design, while intensifies its research in artificial intelligence (AI) and software-defined vehicle (SDV) technologies.
