Nio reaches 600,000th car delivery milestone
Nio today delivered its 600,000th production vehicle in Shanghai, about four months after delivering its 500,000th vehicle.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) reached the milestone of delivering its 600,000th production vehicle, about four months after delivering its 500,000th car.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker's 600,000th production vehicle was delivered at its experience center in Nanxiang, Shanghai on October 11, according to an announcement today.
The vehicle, an ES8 SUV (sport utility vehicle) -- Nio's first production car -- was delivered to Sun Wei, chief digital officer of supply chain at Chinese delivery service giant SF Express.
The ES8 is Sun's first EV model, and he said that Nio's battery swap service is as efficient and reliable as SF Express' logistics.
Shanghai-based Nio's brief announcement didn't mention any further details, though the 600,000th vehicle delivery milestone was achieved with the main Nio brand, not including sub-brand Onvo.
The company announced on its mobile app yesterday that the Nio brand of premium all-electric vehicles would see its 600,000th vehicle delivery worldwide on October 11.
The milestone means that the Nio brand has delivered around 1,960 vehicles so far this month, considering that the brand had cumulatively delivered 598,043 vehicles by the end of September, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio officially launched the L60, the first model of the Onvo sub-brand, on September 19 and began deliveries on September 28.
Nio as a group delivered 21,181 vehicles in September, including 20,349 under the Nio brand and 832 under Onvo, according to data released on October 1.
September's deliveries were the fifth consecutive month in which Nio's monthly deliveries exceeded 20,000 units.
Nio's 500,000th mass-produced vehicle rolled off the assembly line on May 9 at its F2 plant in NeoPark, Hefei, Anhui province. The company did not celebrate the delivery of the 500,000th vehicle, which took place later in May.
Nio was founded in November 2014 and its first production vehicle is the ES8, which was released on December 16, 2017, at Nio Day 2017.
The first production vehicle of the ES8 rolled off the production line on May 27, 2018, and deliveries of the model began in June 2018 with 100 units delivered in the first month.
On December 28, 2019, Nio launched the new ES8 with 188 upgrades at its Nio Day 2019 event, although it was still based on its first-generation vehicle technology platform, NT 1.0.
The company rolled out the upgraded ES8 at Nio Day 2022 on December 24, 2022, transitioning the model to the NT 2.0 platform.
The 2024 ES8 currently on sale was launched on February 22 and first deliveries began in early March. The model is currently the most expensive of Nio's available models, with a starting price of RMB 498,000 ($70,460)
