The Chinese MIIT revealed specs and photos of the new Haval Raptor crossover from Great Wall Motor (GWM). It got refined exterior styling to underline its difference from the upcoming Haval H9 flagship SUV. Another update of the Haval Raptor is the ICE powertrain. Previously, the Raptor was available only as a PHEV.

Haval Raptor PHEV

Haval Raptor first entered the Chinese market in October 2023. It is a plug-in hybrid SUV based on the Lemon modular architecture from Great Wall Motor. After the launch, Raptor sold around 6,000 units for three months in a row. But then the sales volume decreased to approximately 2,000 cars per month. It seems that GWM is eager to increase Raptor’s sales volume by launching the variant with an updated exterior styling and the ICE powertrain.

More on new Haval Raptor

The new Haval Raptor adopts the new design language. Its circular headlights were replaced with smaller rectangular ones. It also adopts a blackened grille with chromed vertical bars. The new variant of the Haval Raptor has more plastic trim in the lower part of its body. It also has wide wheel arches and huge bumpers. From the back, the Haval Raptor has a swing-out rear door with a spare wheel mounted on it.

The exterior styling of the Haval Raptor was likely changed to differ from the recently released Haval H9 flagship off-roader. These two models appeared to be quite similar in terms of exterior styling. Now, the adjusted variant of the Raptor looks more distinctive.

The dimensions of the Haval Raptor are 4680/1950/1822 mm, and its wheelbase is 2738 mm. Its body length with a spare wheel included is 4800 mm. Its approach and departure angles are 25 and 32 degrees, respectively. Front and rear overhangs reach 906 and 1036 mm. The front and rear tracks are 1641 and 1640 mm. It can have three wheel options: 245/55 R19, 255/60 R19, and 265/60 R18.

Inside, the Haval Raptor has five seats (2+3). Its curb weight is 1830 kg, and its gross weight is 2255 kg.

New Haval Raptor powertrain

The current variant of the Haval Raptor is available in China as a plug-in hybrid. Its powertrain adopts the 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE for 123 kW (165 hp) paired with two e-motors with a combined power of 220 kW (295 hp). However, the Chinese regulator revealed that Great Wall Motor is working on the ICE variant of the Raptor.

The petrol-powered version of the Haval Raptor adopts the 2-liter turbocharged GW4N20A engine with a peak power output of 175 kW (235 hp). There is no information about the Raptor’s gearbox. However, we do know it is an all-wheel-drive crossover. Its top speed reaches 200 km/h. The ICE variant of the Haval Raptor will enter the market this year.
