Geely’s second BMA-based SUV “ICON” said to go on sale in Jan., 2020
Shanghai (ZXZC)- The ICON, Geely Auto's second BMA (B-Segment Modular Architecture)-based SUV model, is said to hit the market in January, 2020. After being unveiled to the media in late October, it has become one of most eye-catching models at the Auto Guangzhou 2019. Believe it or not, only 15 minutes after the presale kicked off, 2020 units of the Geely ICON “Milky Way” limited edition were sold out.
Retaining much of the design from the well-received Geely's Concept shown at the Auto China 2018, the mass-produced ICON showcases an evolve version of Geely's “Expanding Cosmos” design DNA. According to the automaker, the ICON has been a global model from the outset with its concept drawings from Geely's global studios. The exterior and interior were conceived in Geely's Barcelona and California design centers respectively, and both of them were further polished in Geely's Shanghai studio.
Featuring a new minimalistic and refined design language, the body of the Geely ICON inherits the distinct blocky silhouette seen in the concept version. As to the front face, little was changed includes a more linear rectangular expanding cosmos grille, infinity loop headlights and slim LED daytime running lamps.
With respect to the side profile, flush pop-out door handles and side-view mirror integrated with corning lamps would appeal to young tech-savvy audience. The lines stretching across the face coupled with the lines ended the rear part and the pedal-designed five-spoke rims help enhance the high-tech and sporty impression of the model.
At the rear, the infinity loop motif is once again used in the taillights. Besides, the linear rectangular expanding cosmos pattern is in tune with the face.
The Geely ICON is 4,350mm long, 1,810mm wide and 1,615mm high; its wheelbase measures 2,640mm.
The minimalistic design continues into interior. The two-tone cockpit renders an upscale ambient, while the 10.25-inch floating touchscreen console equipped with the GKUI 19, Geely's latest smart ecosystem, enables users to interact with the vehicle by touching and voice control.
Powered the ICON SUV will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that pumps 130kW (photo source: Geely Auto's WeChat account).
