Shanghai (ZXZC)- On February 2nd, Chinese new energy vehicle maker BYD and Raízen Power, a subsidiary of Shell, forged a strategic partnership with plans to construct BYD-Shell electric vehicle (EV) charging centers across eight major cities in Brazil over the next three years. This collaboration aims to provide convenient and efficient charging services for local users.

The cities covered in this venture include São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Salvador, and Belém. The cooperation holds significant strategic importance to the development and implementation of BYD charging equipment and battery solutions, said BYD.

BYD and Raízen Power will jointly expand Brazil's public charging network by establishing 600 new DC charging piles, adding a capacity of 18 megawatts to meet the growing demand for recharging new energy vehicles in the region.

Furthermore, this partnership extends exclusive benefits to BYD vehicle owners in Brazil, allowing them to access services at BYD-Shell EV charging centers at preferential rates.

“We believe having a robust and widely distributed charging infrastructure is crucial. As we embark on our ambitious sales expansion plan, investing in charging infrastructure is essential. This not only ensures convenience for our customers but also accelerates the transition to a sustainable and electrified future, driving the growth of clean energy transportation”, commented Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas.

BYD and Shell previously signed a strategic cooperation agreement in 2022. In September 2023, the two entities inaugurated the world's largest electric vehicle charging station in Shenzhen, China, featuring 258 fast-charging piles to meet the demands of users. The collaboration has now extended to Brazil, with both companies exploring opportunities to develop and enhance the electric vehicle charging network locally, continuously improving the charging experience for users.
