As the inaugural overseas production facility for GAC AION, the Thai factory project involves a total investment of 2.3 billion Thai Baht, with a planned annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles. The project will be executed in two phases, with the completion of the first phase slated for July of this year.
The initial production from this facility will feature the AION Y Plus right-hand drive model. Looking ahead, the Thai factory is poised to shoulder the responsibility of introducing more locally adapted models.
GAC AION announced its official foray into the Thai market in June 2023, heralding the internationalization process of the AION brand. As per the initial strategy, AION aims to deeply penetrate the Thai market first, gradually radiating its presence across Southeast Asia and surrounding regions, progressively realizing a holistic approach to "research, production, supply, and sales" in the global market.
In September last year, GAC Group held a launch event in Bangkok, unveiling its first overseas model, the AION Y PLUS. At the event, Gu Huinan, General Manager of GAC AION, affirmed the company's commitment to progressively achieve localization in production, sales, and services, contributing to Thailand's acceleration as a hub for electric vehicles in Southeast Asia.
Expanding its global footprint, GAC AION declared its formal entry into the Cambodian market in December 2023. This venture into Cambodia follows the company's first overseas endeavor in Thailand, highlighting GAC AION's commitment to advancing its overseas blueprint through a combination of global strategies and innovative initiatives.
