BYD logs 33.14% YoY growth in Jan. 2024 sales

Shanghai (ZXZC)- BYD Company Limited ("BYD") announced today its new vehicle sales reached 201,493 units in January 2024, jumping 33.14% from the previous year, despite the 40.92% month-on-month plunge.

In the passenger vehicle (PV) sector, BYD sold a total of 201,019 vehicles last month, representing a 33.87% leap over the year-ago period.

Breaking down the monthly PV sales figures by powertrain solutions, the company saw its battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales surge 47.61% from a year ago to 105,304 units in January, while its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales reached 95,715 units with a 21.43% year-on-year growth.

In the same month, BYD sold 474 commercial vehicles, which included 325 buses. 

The company also reported a sales volume of 36,174 new energy PVs for its overseas markets in January.

Regarding the efforts and achievements it made for its global business expansion, on January 10th and January 15th, 2024, BYD held delivery and maiden voyage ceremonies for first car roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) transport ship, the EXPLORER NO.1, at two locations – Yantai Port in Shandong province and Shenshan Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen city, respectively. Over the next two years, BYD plans to introduce an additional seven Ro-Ro ships into operation, incorporating BYD's energy storage battery technology and axle-generator systems on board.

On January 18, BYD conducted a passenger car brand launch event at the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in Jakarta, introducing three battery electric vehicle (BEV) models – the BYD ATTO 3, the BYD DOLPHIN, and the BYD SEAL (named Yuan PLUS, Dolphin, and Seal in China).

BYD's popular BEV model, the Yuan PLUS, hit the market in Rwanda last month as well.

In addition, BYD commenced the initial stage of its NEV production facility in Hungary by officially signing the Preliminary Sales and Purchase Agreement with the government of Szeged city on January 30, 2024. The move marks a significant breakthrough in BYD's localization efforts in the European region.
