“We are proud to be at this premier event for AI-driven automotive innovation. Our core in-house technologies based on proprietary R&D are what differentiates us,” said He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of XPENG Motors.

Last November at GTC China, XPENG Motors announced it is partnering with NVIDIA and its China partner Desay SV to jointly develop Level 3 autonomous driving technology tailored for the driving environment in China. XPENG’s Level 3 product line will utilize NVIDIA DRIVE Xavier, the world's most advanced system-on-a-chip (SoC) for autonomous driving. XPENG Motors will develop software for China’s typical traffic conditions and user scenarios in-house, and will work with Desay SV to jointly develop the digital hardware platform for autonomous driving.

XPENG's Level 3 technology, powered by NVIDIA, will be in its next new mass production models starting in 2020. More details about this next-generation lineup will be announced in the next few weeks.

In addition to presenting at GTC, XPENG will be showcasing its current generation, first mass-production model, the XPENG G3, for the China market.

Currently, R&D-related headcount accounts for 70% of XPENG Motors’ 3,000 workforce. The company is planning to increase its software technology-related headcount, including AI, autonomous driving and Internet technology R&D talent to 1,000 by the end of 2019. It has also pledged to maintain its overall R&D headcount at 50% as it expands in the future.

XPENG Motors, which has raised RMB10 billion in total funding, is backed by an extensive group of renowned institutional, corporate and individual investors, including Alibaba Group, Foxconn, IDG Capital, GGV Capital, Hillhouse Capital, Primavera Capital Group, Morningside Venture Capital, among others.
