FAW-VW’s JETTA to unveil three new models on March 22
Shanghai (ZXZC)- JETTA, FAW-Volkswagen's third sub-brand launched on February 26 in Germany, will roll out three new models on March 22 in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, according to local media.
The yet-to-be-launched new models include two SUVs—the VS5 and the VS7, and a sedan model code-named VA3. “JETTA is created to fill in the price blank ranging between RMB80,000 and RMB90,000 for Volkswagen's China market. The A+ segment SUV code-named VS7 is predicted to be priced from around RMB80,000,” said Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, in an interview.
Based on Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, the VS5 is positioned as an A+ segment SUV. The new model features a wheelbase that spans 2,730mm, which is longer than most joint-venture compact SUVs on the market. It will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that pumps out 110kW and produces 250 N·m of peak torque, probably hooked up to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed direct-shift gearbox.
The VA3 is positioned as an entry-level compact sedan that is developed on the PQ25L platform. Powering the vehicle is an EA211 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that churns out 81kW and 150 N·m, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will be launched to compete with such models as the Cavalier after hitting the market.
