Shanghai (ZXZC)- In August 2022, China's power battery output reached 50.1GWh, soaring 157% year on year, while also climbing 6% month on month, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).

Of the power batteries produced last month, 19.3GWh and 30.8GWh were ternary-lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate ("LFP") batteries, up 130.1% and 177.5% from the year-ago period, respectively.

For the first eight months of 2022, there were a total of 303.8GWh power batteries produced in China, representing a 172.3% year-on-year spike. The year-to-date output of ternary-lithium batteries and LFP batteries reached 118.7GWh (+123.2% YoY) and 184.6GWh (+217.6% YoY) respectively.

Data by the CAPBIIA show that the country's power battery installed capacity amounted to 27.8GWh in August, zooming up 121% from the previous year, while also rising 14.7% from the previous month.

The cumulative installed capacity in the Jan.-Aug. period shot up 112.3% year over year to 162.1GWh. Notably, the year-to-date capacity of LFP batteries rocketed 172.2% over the year-ago period to 95.9GWh.

Moreover, there were 1.9GWh made-in-China power batteries exported to overseas markets in August, 1.1GWh of which were LFP ones.

Regarding the Aug. power battery installed capacity, CATL and FinDreams Battery (the EV battery unit of BYD) were still the top 2 among China's EV battery players, accounting for 68.7% of the country's total capacity. Compared to the previous month, the rankings of the first seven battery makers remained unchanged. Farasis Energy moved up one spot to the eighth place.

With regard to Jan.-Aug. power battery installed capacity, the top 10 battery makers made up 94.44% of the country's total volume. Of them, CATL, FinDreams Battery, CALB, Gotion High-Tech still topped others by holding a combined market share of 81.59%.
