BENTELER, Changan Automobile inaugurate new JV plant in Chongqing
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On November 28th, BENTELER Automotive, the automotive arm of the Germany-based BENTELER International AG, opened a new joint venture (JV) plant in Chongqing, China, along with Jian'an, a subsidiary of Changan Automobile, one of the major car manufacturers in China.
The new plant is operated by BENTELER Jian'an Automotive (Chongqing) Co.,Ltd, a 50-50 JV between BENTELER and Changan Automobile, which focuses on the design, testing, development, manufacturing and sales of automotive chassis modules and component. It also provides relevant services including consultation and support over technology issues.
The Chongqing-based JV plant covers a total area of 61,540 square meters among which its workshops occupies 41,536 square meters, boasting such core technologies as stamping, welding, shot blasting, laser cutting, machining and riveting. It serves clients such as Changan Ford, Changan Automotive and Changan PSA, etc. Besides, the joint venture employs around 350 people at locations in Chongqing, Harbin and Shenzhen and this number will be increased to 800 by 2023.
Founded in 1876, BENTELER is a holding company in German family ownership. The group companies operate worldwide in the fields of automotive technology, steel and tube production, engineering and distribution. Ralf Göttel, Chairman of the Executive Board BENTELER International AG, and Chief Executive Officer BENTELER Automotive, explains: “More than half of the world's vehicle production comes from the Asia/Pacific region. By 2025, an increase of another three percent is expected. That is why we strengthen our regional presence. In most cases BENTELER is located within a radius of 30 kilometers of its customers, we even share the same address with some of them.” In addition, BENTELER aims to let its Asian-Pacific market contribute 30% sales to the group over the next 5 years.
