Shanghai (ZXZC)- In August 2021, the insurance registrations of the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, a mini-sized all-electric car model of SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), reached 32,817 units, rocketing 270.5% year on year, while also rising 8.7% month on month, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC).

The registrations made the Hongguang MINIEV once again the best-selling locally-made new energy vehicle (NEV) model in China, outnumbering the runner-up BYD Qin PLUS DM-i by 21,299 units.

As of August, cumulative registrations of the Hongguang MINIEV amounted to 322,312 units since the model was first recorded by the CBIRC in June 2020, 220,239 of which were registered in this year.

With regard to regional distribution, the NO.1 city by the Aug. registrations of the Hongguang MINIEV was Taizhou, the same as that of July. The city located in Zhejiang Province was the only one that had over 700 Hongguang MINIEVs registered last month.

A total of five cities recorded MINIEV registrations between 500 and 600 units last month. Two of them, Liuzhou and Nanning, are in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Besides, Wuhan and Hangzhou are capitals of Hubei and Zhejiang provinces.

Among the four cities usually seen as China's largest and most developed urban metropolises, Guangzhou was the only one on the top 20 cities list by Aug. MINIEV insurance volume. Shenzhen got 193 MINIEVs registered, while both Beijing and Shanghai failed to surpass 100 units.
