FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao Base starts production with debut of all-new Bora

Shanghai (ZXZC)-FAW-Volkswagen East China (Qingdao) Base, which officially started construction in July 2015, went into production on May 28, 2018. News came from FAW-Volkswagen that the all-new Bora, as the first model produced in the new plant, officially debuted at the completion ceremony of FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao plant on May 28, 2018. Additionally, the all-new Bora is slated to hit the market at the end of June this year.

The joint venture has totally five bases in China: North East (Changchun) Base, Southwest (Chengdu) Base, South China (Foshan) Base, East China (Qingdao) Base and North China (Tianjin) Base which will complete construction soon. The East China (Qingdao) Base, with its annual production capacity of 300 thousand units, will also produce the full-electric Bora in the future.

As one of the most advanced vehicle manufacturing base of FAW-Volkswagen, the East China (Qingdao) Base possesses the latest technology of vehicle manufacturing and four crafts (stamping, welding, coating and general assembly) for complete modern vehicle manufacturing. Also, the base took the lead to adopt the manufacturing information management system. The coating workshop and the welding workshop have 135 robots and 935 robots respectively, making the automation and intelligence coming first in the automotive industry.

The all-new Bora, together with the Audi A3, built on the MQB A1 platform, has the overall improvement in the platform, exterior look, interior trims, space, power, security and technology. The all-new Bora looks sportier, with larger interior space and improved handling. Its overall dimension is 4,663mm (length) *1,815mm (width) * 1,462/1,473mm (height), with the wheelbase of 2,688mm, 74mm longer than its predecessor.

As for the power, the all-new Bora features the 1.5L naturally-aspirated (NA) engine and 1.4L turbocharged engine as options, which works in conjunction with the 5-speed MT, 6-speed Tiptronic and 7-speed DSG.
