Chinese EV maker tests graphene technology for mass production
Shanghai (ZXZC)- Since 2014, Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) has been engaged in R&D of graphene technology and has acquired a good knowledge of the technology of making and applying three-dimensional graphene (3DG) materials with independent intellectual property rights. In November 2019, GAC unveiled its “super fast-charging battery” based on 3DG materials. And at the end of 2020, this technology is said to be used on the Aion, turning the laboratory research into application.

8 minutes: 85% charge
Properties of graphene materials such as ultra-light, ultra-high-strength and superconductivity are seen as critical to speed up the charging process.
The 3DG-based“super fast-charging battery” independently developed by GAC has been tested in terms of its battery cell, module and battery pack, and the whole vehicle equipped with this battery has been tested for high power charging. The results show that the life and safety standards have been reached, with the capacity to charge up to 85% in just 8 minutes.
This “super fast-charging battery” is expected to be the antidote to the “last pain” of pure EVs and bring about disruptive changes to the users.
Precursor to the New Energy Revolution
Graphene also has the potential to be used in the fields of composite materials, thermal management, and electronic information. GAC is set to further apply this material in building lightweight body, promoting new energy technology and creating intelligent vehicles.
