The BYD Han is expected to be launched at 2020 Beijing Auto Show and to hit the market in June this year, according to a media outlet. Recently, the new car has appeared in the latest patent applications filed to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The automaker suggested the new battery’s energy per unit volume will rise 50% compared to the traditional iron battery. It features high safety and longevity of more than gigameters. The Chinese automaker said in August 2019 it would roll out new-generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery which is supposed to be the “Blade Battery”. It then aimed at an eight-year battery life for 1.2 million kilometers, with a cost cut of about 30% based on its own supply chain.

BYD's passenger vehicles are mainly equipped with ternary battery, while LFP battery is primarily used in commercial vehicles. But its PVs are likely to carry the new LFP battery.

Through 2019, China’s total installed capacity was about 62.2 GWh, up 9.3% year on year, according to Power Battery Application Branch of China Industrial Association of Power Sources. Among battery providers in China, BYD was ranked second with 10.76GWh capacity, following the battery giant CATL.
