SAIC Motor sees 7.4% YoY sales growth in March
Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC Motor reported that the group delivered a total of 649,511 vehicles in March, up 7.4% year on year. Besides, the automaker's cumulative sales in the first three months grew around 10% from a year earlier to 1,822,420 vehicles.
The top three subsidiaries by March sales were SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC-VW and SAIC-GM with 563,227 units delivered in total, which accounted for 86.7% of the group's total March sales. In addition, SAIC-CP, a joint venture between SAIC Motor and Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, delivered 6,064 vehicles in the first three months, skyrocketing 116% over the previous year, which was the fastest-growing subsidiary by Q1 sales among all of SAIC Motor's subsidiaries.
To be specific, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle's (SAIC Motor PV) deliveries totaled 61,836 units in March, posting a remarkable increase of 38.4% year on year. Meanwhile, its Q1 sales reached a new high of 181,838 units, surging 54.2% over the previous year. Reportedly, the sales of new MG 6 surpassed 10,000 units last month. Moreover, Roewe Ei5 was quite popular among consumers since it hit the market on March 21 this year.
SAIC VW delivered a total of 177,307 units in March, leaping 46% month on month and growing 3.1% year on year. Its cumulative sales in the first quarter posted a slight year-on-year growth to 513,058 units. Up to now, SAIC VW's products have fully covered such segments as SUV, sedan, MPV and wagon.
Thanks to the outstanding sales performances of Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac, SAIC-GM March sales totaled 165,859 units, jumping 35% month on month and rising 17.9% year on year. In the meantime, the company had 14.5% year-on-year sales growth with 491,269 vehicles delivered in the first three months. To maintain a rapid sales growth, GM plans to launch several new SUV products in China, including the locally-produced Cadillac XT4, an all-new Chevrolet SUV as well as the all-new Chevrolet Traverse.
SAIC-GM-Wuling March sales decreased 3.9% from the previous year to 220,061 units, while still surging 42% compared with 155,008 units of the previous month. In the first three months of this year, the automaker's cumulative sales edged up 2.2% year on year to 575,137 units, accounting for nearly 27% of the annual sales in 2017.
