Zeekr names 'CX1e' family SUV 7X, launch to be within this year
The Zeekr 7X is a 5-seat SUV, Zeekr's second model aimed at the mainstream EV market.
Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) has announced the official name of its new SUV (sport utility vehicle) model, internally codenamed CX1e, as the Zeekr 7X, which is expected to go on sale in the second half of the year.
The company announced the name of the five-seat SUV on its social media channels today, along with some of its specifications.
The Zeekr 7X is based on Geely's SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) and will be Zeekr's first family SUV, the company said.
The Zeekr 7X is based on the Hidden Energy design language and measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm, according to the company.
The dimensions are slightly smaller than Nio's (NYSE: NIO) ES6 and Xpeng's (NYSE: XPEV) G9, both of which are battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The Nio ES6 measures 4,854 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width and 1,703 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,915 mm, while the Xpeng G9 measures 4,891 mm in length, 1,937 mm in width and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.
Zeekr was established in 2021 and is currently offering the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 007, Zeekr 009, and Zeekr X models.
It launched its first model, the Zeekr 001, on April 15, 2021, a shooting brake style model aimed at a niche market.
The Zeekr 009, launched on November 1, 2022, is an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), and the Zeekr X, launched on April 12, 2023, is a compact SUV, both of which also target niche markets.
The Zeekr 007 electric sedan, which went on sale December 27, 2023, is Zeekr's first model aimed at the mainstream EV market.
The Zeekr 7X will be Zeekr's second model to target the mainstream EV market, while SUVs are usually more popular among Chinese consumers because of their larger interior space.
Zeekr believes the new mid-to-large-size SUV will help sales and gross margins after it's launched during the year, the company's management said in a June 11 earnings call.
