Tesla sells 59,261 cars in China in Jun, up 7% from May
Tesla sold 59,261 vehicles in China in June, down 20.15 percent year-on-year but up 7.33 percent from May.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) saw a further sequential rebound in electric vehicle (EV) sales in China last month, as it typically produces for the local market in the second half of each quarter.
Tesla China sold 71,007 vehicles in June, including 11,746 for export, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That means the US electric vehicle (EV) maker sold 59,261 vehicles in China in June, down 20.15 percent from 74,212 a year earlier but up 7.33 percent from 55,215 in May, CnEVPost calculations show.
Tesla China's exports in June were down 39.67 percent from 19,468 a year earlier and down 32.33 percent from 17,358 in May.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that makes the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub for it.
Tesla's pattern is to produce cars for export in the first half of the quarter and for the local market in the second half, it previously said.
Of Tesla China's June sales including exports, the Model Y was 43,951 units, contributing 61.90 percent of sales. This was down 30.28 percent from 63,043 in the same period last year and down 3.10 percent from 45,359 in May.
Model 3 sales, including exports, amounted to 27,056 units, contributing to 38.10 percent of Tesla China's June sales. That's down 11.69 percent from 30,637 a year ago, and down 0.58 percent from 27,214 in May.
In the second quarter, Tesla China sold 205,747 vehicles, including those sold in China and exported to overseas markets, contributing 46.34 percent of Tesla's global deliveries, the first time since the second quarter of 2022 that it has been below 50 percent.
In China, Tesla sold 145,897 vehicles in the second quarter, contributing 32.86 percent of global deliveries, a decrease of 6.88 percent year-on-year, but an increase of 10.18 percent from the first quarter.
In the first half of the year, Tesla China sold 426,623 vehicles, including exports, a decrease of 10.47 percent year-on-year.
In China, Tesla sold 278,317 vehicles in the first half of the year, a decrease of 5.37 percent year-on-year.
