China NEV retail rises to 856,000 in Jun, penetration hits another record at 48.4%

Retail sales of BEVs in June were 493,000 units, down 0.5 percent from May, while PHEVs were 363,000 units, up 17.4 percent from May.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounted for 363,000 units of retail sales in June, contributing 42.4 percent of all NEV retail sales. That's up 67.2 percent year-on-year and up 17.4 percent from May.

China's passenger vehicles, including sedans, SUVs and MPVs, retailed 1,767,000 units in June, down 6.7 percent year-on-year but up 3.2 percent from May.

China's NEV penetration at retail was a record 48.4 percent in June, up 13.5 percentage points from 34.9 percent a year earlier and up 1.4 percentage points from 47 percent in May.

The retail penetration of local brands of NEVs in June was 72.5 percent, compared to 29.8 percent for luxury brands and 7.4 percent for mainstream JV brands, according to CPCA.

China's wholesale sales of passenger NEVs in June were 982,000 units, up 29.0 percent year-on-year and up 9.5 percent from May.

NEV penetration on wholesale hit a record 45.3 percent in June, up 11.5 percentage points from 33.8 percent a year earlier and up 1.1 percentage points from 44.2 percent in May.

Penetration of NEVs from local Chinese brands at wholesale in June was 60.7 percent, compared to 34.4 percent for luxury brands and 7.4 percent for mainstream JV brands.

Passenger NEVs exported from China stood at 80,000 units in June, up 12.3 percent year-on-year but 15.2 percent lower than in May, contributing 21 percent of passenger car exports.

BEVs contributed 72.6 percent of June's NEV exports, with exports of A0- and A00-class BEVs accounting for 27 percent of China-branded NEV exports, according to the CPCA.
