NDRC: China is formulating development strategy on intelligent vehicle

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Nian Yong, director of the Department of Industrial Coordination of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), delivered a speech about intelligent vehicle development at the 2018 Connected and Automated Vehicle International Seminar.

Nian mentioned that manufacturing industry is entering into an intelligent period which will drive the intelligentization of other relevant industries. He said, intelligentization is becoming the strategic direction the global auto industry marches forward.

In addition, he stated that the strategic planning on intelligent vehicle development should be strengthened. On the international stage, some developed countries like the UK, the U.S., Japan and Sweden have formulated development strategies focusing on intelligent vehicle industry, which is quite a wisdom choice. Besides, their governments offer supports in laws and regulations to back up the intelligent vehicle progress in their own countries. Currently, the U.S. and Europe have reaped the first-mover advantages in this area.

As the world's largest developing country, China has acquired some favorable conditions to develop the intelligent vehicle. For instance, China has an immense auto market and takes the lead in NEV development worldwide. Meanwhile, a large number of Internet and communication companies have sprung up in this country.

Based on the above reasons, China has been formulating policies for intelligent vehicle development and has asked for public consultation. Nian said China's intelligent vehicle industry should build 6 major systems, including technical innovation, industrial ecosystem, road networks, laws and standards as well as security assurance.

He also added that China should make preparations for carrying out product strategies. He suggested creating a sound environment for intelligent vehicle development. Relevant entities should strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights and the building of credit system in intelligent vehicle area.

In the meantime, the cooperation with overseas peers should be welcomed in China. The government may gradually relax the JV ownership restrictions and can encourage companies to introduce global advanced technologies.

Additionally, he revealed that the government plans to build a national-level intelligent auto innovation platform composed of a council, an expert group and companies.
