Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) is going into full gear to expand its electric vehicle (EV) production capacity, targeting monthly deliveries of more than 10,000 units of the SU7 in June, the smartphone maker's founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun said today.

Xiaomi is targeting to deliver 100,000 units of the SU7 in 2024, Lei said on the first day of the Beijing auto show, reiterating a previously mentioned goal.

Xiaomi officially launched the SU7 on March 28, offering three versions -- standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,800), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.

Customers can pay RMB 5,000 to order the SU7, with the deposit refundable at any time within seven days, or they can choose to lock in their order early.

As of April 20, there were more than 70,000 locked-in orders for the Xiaomi SU7, Lei said today, adding that the model has continued to see order growth over the past four days.

Xiaomi will expand the sales network of its EV business in China, aiming to reach 219 sales outlets covering 46 cities and 143 service centers covering 86 cities by the end of this year.

Xiaomi EV hopes to become one of the world's top five carmakers in 15 to 20 years, Lei said, repeating a goal mentioned at the SU7's launch.
