GWM becomes China’s first automaker to join Hydrogen Council
Shanghai (ZXZC)- Great Wall Motor joined as one of the six new steering member of Hydrogen Council on Mar. 13. The rest five members include 3M, Bosch and China Energy. It is noteworthy that Great Wall Motor is China's first automaker who joined as steering member of Hydrogen Council.
Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motor believed that hydrogen will play a crucial role in energy and transportation fields in both China and all over the world. As a kind of renewable energy carrier as well as a kind of clean fuel for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, hydrogen can help realize zero-emission transportation. As a steering member of Hydrogen Council, Great Wall Motor will take the corresponding responsibilities in order to make a contribution to building a global hydrogen society.
Hydrogen Council was launched at the World Economic Forum 2017, in Davos, aiming to strengthen the role of hydrogen technologies in global energy transition and thus to curb the global warming. Its current members include various famed automakers as well as leading international energy, oil & gas companies, such as Anglo American plc, Air Liquide, Iwatani, Shell and Total.
With increasing interest from policy makers and investors worldwide, the next five to ten years could see a decisive shift in popularization and application of hydrogen technologies, with scenarios suggesting that hydrogen technologies could contribute to meeting 18% of the world's final energy demands, avoiding 6 Gt of CO2 emissions, creating a market with of 2.5 trillion dollars each year and providing 30 million jobs by mid-century.
