Nio (NYSE: NIO) has seen its ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) software reach a new milestone in terms of miles traveled, as the feature is used by more and more car owners in China.

As of today, users have accumulated more than 500 million kilometers using NOP (Navigate on Pilot) and NOP+, Nio said.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker released NOP in October 2020 and launched the more powerful NOP+ with the support of LiDAR and bigger computing power in December 2022 after accumulating a large amount user mileage data.

On July 1, NOP+ began accepting subscriptions at a price of RMB 380 ($52) per month. Until then, NOP+ Beta was available for a 185-day free trial.

To date, subscribers have accumulated more than 400 million kilometers with NOP and more than 100 million kilometers with NOP+, Nio said today.

NOP is more than 1,000 days away from launch and users have logged more than 5.75 million cumulative hours with NOP and NOP+, Nio said.

NOP+ has served more than 80 percent of Banyan users, Nio said, adding that ET7, ET5, and ES7 users like the feature the most, with ET7 users contributing a third of the miles.

Nio launched Nio OS 3.0 in September 2021 with a revamp of its software architecture.

The company announced then that the in-vehicle software for models based on the NT 1.0 platform was based on the Aspen architecture, while the software for vehicles based on the latest NT 2.0 platform utilizes the new Banyan architecture.

During peak travel times in the morning and evening, about 10,435 people in China use NOP+ at the same time, Nio said.

Currently, NOP+ is adding more than 5 million kilometers per week, Nio said.

Users have already used NOP+ in 340 cities in China, with the top three most popular regions being Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu, contributing 18 percent, 16 percent, and 15 percent of the mileage, respectively, the company said.

NOP+ has been able to provide a veteran-driver-like driving experience, with a 95 percent success rate in overtaking lane changes and a 93 percent success rate in navigating lane changes, Nio said.

On the official version of NOP+, Nio brought a new BEV (Bird's Eye View) design and occupancy network perception model and switched to the same technology stack as NAD (Nio Autonomous Driving), the company said on July 1.

The BEV perception architecture can display richer information including dynamic models, road elements, vehicle taillights, and turn signals, allowing assisted driving to be downgraded 80 percent less frequently for a smoother NOP+ experience, Nio said in July.
