Great Wall Motor has entered the Indonesian automotive market, further expanding its presence in the international market as Chinese car companies increase their efforts overseas.

At the Gaikindo Indonesia International auto show (GIIAS) on August 10, Great Wall officially launched its GWM brand in Indonesia and presented models including the Tank 500 HEV, Haval H6 HEV, Haval Jolion HEV, and Ora Funky Cat.

This is Great Wall's latest move in the ASEAN automotive market that will bring smarter and greener vehicle options to more overseas customers, it said in a press release yesterday.

Indonesia is Great Wall's ninth country entry in the ASEAN region, after the Chinese carmaker entered markets including Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Great Wall held a launch event in Hanoi, Vietnam, on August 2 to officially launch its GWM brand in the country and introduce the Haval H6 HEV.

Great Wall sold 28,896 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July, up 163 percent from 10,994 units in the same month last year, and up 8.35 percent from 26,643 units in June, according to data released by the company on August 1.

In the January-July period, Great Wall's NEV sales were 121,965 units, up 64 percent year-on-year.

Besides Great Wall, Chinese EV startup Neta Auto also announced yesterday that it has entered the Indonesian EV market and presented three models at the GIIAS exhibition.

Neta's three models were available for reservation by Indonesian customers during that show, with official sales to begin in the fourth quarter.

Great Wall plans to start production of its Haval brand models in Uzbekistan this year
